Pricing & cost calculator
Understand your costs before setting a price. Use one currency throughout. For a service, use one unit for one job.
How to use this calculator
- Decide what one unit means. One cupcake, one box of cupcakes, or one complete service job. Keep that choice consistent.
- Enter the costs for the whole batch/job. Materials, packaging, labor hours and other costs are totals. The calculator divides those costs by your number of units.
- Add selling fees and a margin goal. Fees come from your actual payment or sales provider. Your margin target is your choice.
- Enter a selling price to compare. This is optional: use 0 to skip the comparison.
- Select Calculate. Review the results below. Change your inputs and calculate again to compare options.
Example: 12 cupcakes sold individually
Select Try a bakery example to fill these values automatically: 12 units; 18 ingredients; 6 packaging; 2 labor hours at 15/hour; 6 other costs; 3% selling fee; no fixed fee; 20% target margin; 8 selling price. All money amounts use USD.
Total batch cost is 60: 18 + 6 + (2 × 15) + 6. Dividing by 12 gives 5 cost per cupcake. With the sample 3% fee, break-even is about 5.15, and the price for a 20% margin is about 6.49. At 8 each, about 2.76 remains per cupcake after the entered costs and fees—a 34.5% margin.
If you sell all 12 as ONE box, enter 1 unit and compare the whole-box price. The same costs then belong to one box, not one cupcake.
These are teaching amounts, not suggested prices or fee rates.
Your estimate
What do these results mean?
- Batch / job cost: all materials, packaging, labor and other costs you entered, before selling fees.
- Cost per unit before fees: total batch/job cost divided by the number of sellable units.
- Break-even price: the price that covers entered costs and fees, with nothing left over. It does not cover omitted costs.
- Price for your target margin: the estimated price needed to leave your chosen percentage after entered costs and fees.
- Price comparison: what remains at the price you typed. A negative result means that price does not cover entered costs and fees.
Target price = (cost per unit + fixed fee per unit) ÷ (1 − percentage fee − target margin). Results use only the costs you entered; they exclude taxes and any omitted costs. Check demand, capacity and actual fees before choosing a price. Displayed prices are rounded.
This calculator does not create sales or expense records, change your profile prices, or save inputs after you leave.
